History and virtues of turquoise
This blue-green stone called “ Turquoise ” has been used in jewelry for millennia. It is one of the first stones to be mined in the world. A look back at the origins of this beautiful mineral stone.
History of turquoise
The name “turquoise” means “Turkish stone” because Europe discovered this stone coming from Turkey, where it was extracted. She then gave her name to the blue-green color.
Several civilizations exploited turquoise and gave it real powers.
In ancient Egypt, turquoise was a sacred stone with powers in the form of amulets and jewelry. The funerary mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamun was covered with it. It then symbolizes rebirth and hope; like the blue color of the passage from night to lightening day.
In Native American times, turquoise brought protection and power. She was a guarantee of peace and embodied the elements of water and sky. The Navajo people use this stone in their jewelry.
Today there are three major regions producing turquoise: the American South West, Mexico, Egypt, Iran and China. The blue colors differ depending on the origin of the stone. The turquoises from Iran or Egypt lean towards green and the American ones towards blue.
The stones used by Manora Bijoux come from Nevada in the United States. You will find them in the Terre de Soleil collection .
